Reviews
stayed for one night for a quick trip away - despite the weather we loved our short stay. The hotel is thoughtfully laid out, we had a great room with a view over the lake, and having to stay inside was much improved by the choice of unique board games in the bar area and the spa facilités.
We also chose to eat in the Rampsbeck and absolutely loved all the dishes. Would highly recommend the scallops and veal. Servers very attentive and friendly too. Overall great stay despite the weather, thanks for having us!
Recently enjoyed a delightful 5 night stay at this hotel, which definitely lives up to the hype. Fantastic location on the shores of the lake, with incredible views from all angles, excellent gym / pool facilities and comfy rooms. The staff were very friendly and made an effort to smile or say hello when you come in and out, which was a really nice touch. Special mention to the waffle machines at breakfast, and the excellent meals in both restaurants.
5 star stay all round
This is in a great location in terms of being near the Ullswater lake with mesmerizing lake and mountains/hill view.
The room was very beautiful and clean, and we loved the view from the balcony, although we did want the family shepherd’s hut but it wasn’t available at the time of booking. Nevertheless we loved the accommodation, it was big to fit 4 people. It was also a lovely and warm feeling to have the added touches and treats in the room as welcomed.
The staff were very helpful and friendly, a lovely gentleman helped us and took our luggage to our room.
The place itself is absolutely beautiful, relaxing and calm, very aesthetic with amazing lake views and grass area. You can have a swim in the lake, with natural beauty surrounding.
There is a sheep shed with swim suits available for free and changing facilities with showers.
They also have a good range of water sports available
There are few things that need improvement
Although the room was nice, It never had mixer taps in the basin, needs updating.
one of adult twin bed had mattress topper and the other never had a mattress topper so my daughter never got a comfortable night sleep due to the terrible uncomfortable cheap mattress.
The breakfast wasn’t great either, it was a buffet, not a lot of options available. We had the traditional vegetarian breakfast which also wasn’t warm. The waffle was the only thing we enjoyed a little, could do with more warmer options. The service in the breakfast room wasn’t great either.
The variety and options of food is not good in the restaurants, hence we decided to eat out for lunch and dinner, which was also inconvenient as we didn’t have a car. We did try the pizza in the glass house, which tasted nice and fresh and wasn’t bad in terms of price or quality.
The swimming pool and spa is too exposed and no privacy as it’s glass all around. I get it the view from the pool is fantastic but there has to be another way around this to balance it out. The timetable is absolutely ridiculous, that needs to be looked into. Women’s only pool or women’s only time slot would greatly facilitate and meet the needs of those that wanted this and highly benefit the hotel .
The sheep shed only has one shower.
This place would definitely benefit from a taxi service and guide tour as the bus and taxi service in penrith is terrible, so facilitating this kind of service would definitely give a better experience.
Although we visited off peak, it was expensive. The package was overpriced taking into consideration all the facilities, the food, and the cheap mattresses.
We found the food and stay was much better in another hotel, where we stayed after, at almost half the price, compared to this.
My partner and I stayed in the hotel for 2 nights. Honestly it was lush. The pool, sauna and the hot tub were amazing and it wasn’t too busy. Staff were able to resolve our issue quickly when someone had accidentally taken our hotel key which was in our bath robes when we were taking a swim. We also love the garden access and the lake views waking up in the morning. I’m generally quite a light sleeper but I’ve slept well. I can also vouch that the curtains are really good black curtains that block sunlight which helped my sleep. The surroundings of the hotel were very peaceful and calm, definitely felt like a good restful break.
Nevertheless, I do feel like some minor things can be addressed to improve the service better. The breakfast buffet was generally ok. While the waffles were a highlight, the English breakfast was cold as it must have been sat there for quite some time. I opted for the bagels but it wasn’t toasted (tried putting it through the toaster machine twice but it just wasn’t browning). Furthermore, prior to our visit, we were advised that our breakfast on day 1 was at 8:30am but we were then told that it’s at 8am upon checking in. The guy at the reception then said that he could change it to 8:30am with no problem but the next day we had a text to inform that our breakfast was at 8am….. we had to phone the receptionist at that time to resolve this matter which was not that big of a deal but it was a slight annoyance from our end.
Overall, I would happily stay there again.
Fantastic exclusive hideaway. First class facilities. Real homely atmosphere. Excellent service. Tastefully decorated and comfortable rooms. Well worth a visit if you are in the area!
We booked a paddle boarding lesson on the banks of Ullswater from their water sport hut in the grounds of the hotel. Ritchie, the instructor, was fabulous. Very friendly yet professional in showing our 11 year old the correct and safest way to paddle board. He took some amazing photos while they were out on their 90-minute lesson. He made it fun while giving her the confidence to enjoy the experience.
Thank you, Ritchie. we'll definitely be back.
Can highly recommend x
We dined there tonight and the experience was pretty disappointingly. The front house staff was extremely rude and just wouldn’t accommodate us with the request to move our 8 person party to another equally as big table which was set for 6. …
It was our second stay. I thought the Rampsbeck was even better this time. Also hotel had aged well after 5 years, kids club was great. And staff generally lovely. I Was rather knarked by a throw away comment by one of the desk staff, I’m …
